A meeting of shareholders in the Londen claim was held at the office of Mr D. G. MaoDonnell, Auckland, on Monday afternoon. It was resolved, "That a company be formed under the Mining Companies Act, 1872, as* the London Gold Mining Company (Limited), with a nominal capital of £20,000 in 20,000 shares of £1 each, nil paid up ; 1500 shares to be reserved for the company's benefit," The following directors were appointed:—Messrs James Dickey, Thomas Melville, William E. Tines, James.Macfarla'ne, J. B Morpeth, R. R McGregor, and M. Brown. MrD. G.MacDonnell was appointed legal manager, and Mr Menzies auditor. The company starts with a sum of £500 to its credit.

A man named Thomas Webb met with an accident in the Kauaeranga Bush yesterday. He was carrying a jack up a shoot, when his foot slipped and the jack fell on his thumb. He came down, to the fTospifal, and the wound was dresppd last n;ght by Dr Payne, who reports that the fracture.is a compound one, but hopes to be able to save the thumb.

The Stratford correspondent of the Herald sends the following particulars of the murder at New Plymouth :—-Two Tyrole.'e, named Knolls and Antonio G-atnell, who went up Opunake Road yesterday to see about some bush falling, were seen returning about half A mile from Stratford. G-atnell was seen passing through (he town alone on his way to Medhurat Park. Mr Trigg, Foreman of the Ngaire Eoad Board, when going up Opunake Eoad, found Knoll's body stabbed in the back and the abdomen, and covered with blood. The body was in a reclining position against the bank at the side of the road, about fire minutes walk nearer Stratford than where the men wre last seen together. There were signs of a severe struggle having taken place, tho victim having evidently fought hard for life. Gutnell was arrested at Medhurst last night by Scrgf Cavill and Constable Tapp. When Tapp approached Gatnell he exclaimed, " Ah, Isuprofe you have come to take me away for killing that man." Gatnell this morning led the police to the spot where he had hid the knife, under a log close to the spot where the deed was committed. Gutnell is supposed to be mad. He was in a Ldnatic Asylum some time ago.

A meeting- of the shareholders in the Albion mine, Otunui, was held on Monday at the Pacific Hotel, when a call of £2 per share was made. Satisfaction was expressed at the progress made by the workmen, considering the present difficult character of the country. The drive is in a little more than forty feet. It', was stated that the reef recently cut in the Invincible mine runs towards the Albion mine. ■

At a meeting of the shareholders in the Bonanza mina, Otunui, held at the Pacific Hotel last night, it was resolved to suspend the present workirgs, which were beiug curried on with a view to intersecting the Eureka reef, as the drive of the Arizona which should cut the reef in tliree or'four weeks., would furnish a better clue to its position. An executive committee was formed, one of the duties'of which will be to arrange for putting in a low level tunnel in conjunction with other mines, as the best available means of working the Bonanza reef.

Mbs Sidney Taiwhanga (formerly Mrs Morden), wife of thn famous Maori agitator, went with her half-caste child in her arms yesterday to the Believing Officer at Auckland to apply for rations. Mb White, the representative of the South Australian farmers, is'at present in Victoria examining the agricultural lands. He has informed the Minister of Lands that upwards of 1000 farmers were pre pared to leave South Australia, and bring with them capital varying from £200 to £4000 each.

The defensive works ia Victoria are rapidly approaching completion. All the guns at Queenscliffe are mounted. Those at Swan Island are nearly so.
