EGYPT.

The following special despatches appear in the Auckland Star :—

London, August 24. A friendly interview has taken place between Sir Garnet Wolseley and Baron de Lesseps.

A delegate from Soudan has arrived and proclaimed that the Governors in that locality are equipping &v army of 60 guns and 20,000 men to assist the Khedive.

All the positions held by Arabi's forces between Suez and Ismailia hare now , been evacuated, and the enemy has retired in a zigzag and disorderly manner. The fresh water supply to places along the canal and to Alexandria are found to be sufficient for all requirements. The deserters coming in from the enemy are very numerous. Thousands appear to have been intimidated into following Arabi. The rabble and camp followers congregated at Kafradowar are now retiring thence into the interior, their retreat being marked by the villages they are burning as they pass. The enemy is in strong force at Mehallet el Kebir, to the north-east of Tantah. An advanced guard of 3000 men occupies an entrenched position near Ismailia. Two vessels, laden with Turkish troops, have left Rhodes, steaming in a southeasterly direction. The Nile is inundating the surrounding country. The Egyptian forces concentrated at Mehallet el Kebir number 25,000. They have 60 guns. Tea Greek pillagers hare been shot at Ismailia. The Governor and troops of the Soudan hare declared in favor of the Khedive.
