Reports from the Otunui district are very encouraging, especially those relating to the Eureka claim, where there is said to be a splendid Bhow of the precious metal in the reef. Thk prospectus of the St. Helier'a and! Nbrthcote Land Company, Auckland, appears elsewhere in this issue. The capital is £125,000, in £1 shares, and 65,000 shares hare already been applied for. The Company have acquired the exclusive right to cod struct tramways in the city and suburbs of Auckland, and as these hare proved very remunerative in other places, there is no reason why they should not do so in this instance. At the Police Court this morning, James Taster was charged with riding a horse on the footpath in Queen street on the 17th inst. He denied the charge, but Sergt. Thk Auckland Mutual Insurance Company havo appointed Robert Dobeon, agent of the New Zealand and Victoria Insurance Companies, at Napier, as manager of the new company. A proposal bas been received from the Dunedin Mutual Company to amalgamate with them, having a head office at Dunedin, but the proposal is not likely to be accepted. Mr Dobson proceeds shortly to Christchurch and Dunedin to arrange in all probability for local boards.
