COROMANDEL.
Tokatea.—The striking of gold in a, crosscut from the low level is thought likely to open a new era for this company. Hitherto the chief gold obtained has been from the footwall side of the reef, but the fact of the level having been driven without result along the footwall for a great distance has induced the manager to go back and crosscut, with the most gratifying results, nearly half a cwt. of picked stone having been broken out, some of which was richer than any yet obtained. This discovery is of great importance, not only as showing that the gold goes down, but by its apparent connection with the strike of gold now being worked on in the intermediate levels.
Blackmobe.—The new flat reef, recently opened up on the higher portion of this company's ground has proved of value, a large quantity of picked stone and specimens having been obtained therefrom. Many consider that this mine in its palmiest days had not better pros - pects than at the present. Tiebnan's Freehold.—Good gold is reported in the reef, and in a stringer running into the same. Matawai.—Vanghan and Vizard keep gold iv sight in breaking down. Just in-Time.—Work is proceeding. A little gold has been seen during"ithe ; week, but nothing of importance. Union Beach.—A ; fresh start to lift - the water out of the mine has been made. Blue Pjbteb.—A crushing of ten tons is taking place at the Corby battery. The conveyance of the quartz from the mine proved a toilsome^ job, the Tokatea road being in a dreadful state. Paul's Obeek Pbospecting Association. —The low level is going in on the reef, which looks well for gold. - Ebin's Hope.—The low level is beingcarried in to cut the specimen leader which has yielded such good returns. Stodabt's.—The recent find in Blackmore'g is believed to be an important one for Stodart's, situated as it is immediately above Blaekmore's. Tiebnan's continue getting out good stone.—Mail.
