The Road to the Otunui.
A large and.influential meeting of gevitlemen interested in the Otunui District, to the number, of between 30 and 40, was held last night at the Pacific Hotel, Grahams* town, to take into consideration the ad" visability of getting a petition signed urging the formation of a road via the Hape Creek, said petition to be handed to the Warden of the district to forward the same to the Minister of Mines at Wel« lington.
Mr Greenville was voted to the chair on the motion of Mr C. McLean, seconded by Mr Vidal.
The Chairman read the advertisement calling the meeting, and stated the object of it was to inform those present that he had interviewed the Warden on the matter of the road. The County Council was about to call for tenders for the formation of a road via the Kauaeranga Creek. The Warden assured him that if a petition was got up and signed by the claimholders and others interested in the opening of the district he would see it forwarded to the Minister of Mines *t Wellington. In his opinion a petition should be sent round for signature. A resolution was then moved by Mr C. McLean, seconded by Mr Moorcraft— " That the road to the Otunui be formed via the Hape Creek, and that the present meeting pledge themselves to support the application for the same."—Carried. It was then moved by Mr McKeown, seconded by Mr Koss—"That Messrs McLean, Cocks, Vidal, and the Chairman assist the secretary (Mr Hareourt) in preparing a petition praying that the road to Otunui be formed via the Hape Creek." —Carried.
Mr E. Ross volunteered to obtain the signatures of the miners at the Otanui.
After providing for ways and means, acd passing a vote of thanks to the Chairman, the meeting separated.
