NEW PLYMOUTH.

This day. A man has been lost in the bush near Stratford. A party has been out during the week searching for him, but they have abandoned their task, giving up all idea of finding him. It is thought that he must have crawled into a hollow log in order to find protection from the rain, and been unable to get out again. He leaves a wife and family, who are ill provided for. A Suspicious Fire. St. Andrew's Church, belonging to the Presbyterian body, and respecting the possession of which a dispute has lately arisen between the late pastor and his congregation, was burnt down this morning shortly after one o'clock. The building was insured in the Victoria Company for £400 in the name of the Rev. Mr Breach, but the trustees of the church hare lodged a protest against the money being paid, as he has no legal interest in the building. It appears that the dispute had in no way been- settled, and the committee had put fresh locks on the church, as the Rev. Mr Breach had been heard to state he would preach in the building on Sunday, and a clergyman from Auckland had arrived to take his place in the pulpit. It is expected that an inquiry will be made as incendiarism is suspected.
