OUR MINES.

QUEEN OF BEAUTY. ;< In breaking down the reef at No. 9 level this atternoon 20 pounds of specimens and 20 pounds of picked stone were bagged. No gold is showing in the face at present, but it is probable that picked

stone will be met with frequently now, a 8 the drive is nearly underneath the winze. HAPE GREEK. It will be remembered that the big flood last year covered up the turbine of the Hape Creek battery, and since then it has been idle. During the last few days, however, Mr Greenville has been patting the mill, &c, into repair. In order to make an outlet for the water a trench 120 feet in length, and in most places 6 feet deep, has had to be dug, a box drain being laid down for 60 feet, and the earth filled in again. The turbine was started yesterday, and seems none the worse for its long submersion. The battery is going on quartz for Mr Greenville at present, though he expects to start for Papa, and party to-morrow.

The battery is progressing faster since the weather cleared up. Tokatea.—Good gold has been struck in a crosscut from the low level about two feet from the main drive. The lode channel of country in the western part of the Tokatea ground is very wide, in some case 3 being from 20 to 30 feet. A level has been carried along the footwall with the inten* tion of cutting the hangingwall portion by crosscuts. The first of these crosscuts was commenced about a week ago, striking the hangingwall in two feet, with the capital results above mentioned, about 25lbs of good picked stone being broken out.
