Oa Thursday, August 24tb, Mr Wynne Williams will move —"That in the opinion of this House it is essential to the future prosperity of the colony that all Crown Lands should be reserved for the purpose of being leased or sold in blocks not exceedin? 500 acres at fixed prices per acre, and that provision should be made to the above effect, and also for the prevention by stringent penal provisions of the pur* chase by any one person of more than SCO acres of land, or of the holding of leaseholds of larger extent than 500 acres, including lands let for purely pastoral purposes; further, that the Government should, preparatory to next session of Parliament, consider of some financial proposal for the redistribution of taxation as to that it shall fall in due proportion more directly on the owners of lands specially benefited by the construction of railways, thereby equalising as far as possible the general taxation of the people,"
A return of expenditure in repairs, alterations, painting, and decorating of the Parliamentary Buildings since last session of the Assembly:—Committee rooms, Legislative Council, £778 ; painting, papering, distempering inside, paperoutside, £964; new galvanised iron pipes, £544; redying, drapery, upholstery, repairs to furniture, new matting, carpets, etc, £656 ; fencing ground, a£4l3, miscellaneous. £684; total, £4069. Driver gives notice of financial separa^ tion resolutions this day.
