Samuel Joy was committed for trial for bigamy. The evidence disclosed that the marriage arose through Joy advertising for a wife, and a widow named Mary Ann Praughley replying. Bail was allowed.
Bishop Cow ie presented diplomas of the New Zealand University at the Choral Hall, before a large audience, to the llev. John King Davis, M.A., William Fiddler, M.A., and E. J. MaeFarland, 8.A., St. John's College.
