OUR MINES.

QUEEN OF BEAUTY.

The drive at N"o. 9 is now being taken in on the footwall portion of the reef, and the quartz coining to hand looks very favorable for gold. A short time should see the face under the winze from No. 8 level. Work has not been resumed in the latter place as yet, but the men were engaged to«day baling the water out, so a start will probably be made to-morrow. The pumps are now working their ordinary stroke, about 10 to the minute, that speed being sufficient to keep the water^down. The battery will start work again in a day or two. SOUTHERN CROSS. A few days ago the directors of this company and the Deep Level Tribute Company decided jointly to sink a shaft somewhere on the flat for the purpose of working the reefs which are yielding so well in the New Prince Imperial mine, and wrote down to the manager, Mr Courts, for an estimate of the cost of a shaft 400 ft deep, winding machinery, &c, and also a recommendation as to the site. This estimate, &c, was sent to town this morning, so news of a more definite character should be to hand in a day or two. In the drive at the 400 ft level a large amount of antimony has lately been seen in the reef, and as this is generally a good indication of gold, the manager has started to rise where the greatest quantity of antimony was seen in driving. The quartz coming to hand looks a little more favorable for gold. GOLD BETUBNS. Kvuxxvi Hut.— Bennett and party have crushed a parcel of quartz for the return of 3ozs lldwts gold.
