CALEDONIAN.

The manager has started to stope on No. 6 reef in the drive from the Otago flat winze. The reef varies from two to four feel in thickness, and,has shown a little gold. A trial parcel will be treated from it as soon as possible. The rise from old No. 1 level has'come "across solid country, and is now going tip on the No. 1 reef. There is about 10 inches of quartz showing, which is well mineralised, but has shown no gold as jet. Another 30 or 40 feet will connect with the drive at top of Capt. Kichards' rise. So far as is known, there should be a good block to take out-here, and also underneath, and as . gold was left in the leader under the flat-sheet, the quartz should at any rate prove payable. The drive from the prospecting winze ia now on some cross leaders running from No. 2 to No. 1 reefs. One of'fßfeSoJis about 6in. thick, but the others are much smaller. Gold is seen at every breaking down. Mr Hicks thinks there is yet about 30ft to drive before No. 1 reef is reached. The winze on the hangingwall leader has been stopped, and the men put to blast out the reef in the side of the winze, at a point where a quantity of mineral was seen in sinking??
