Arabi advances towards Alexandria, A Great Battle Proceeding. Alexandria, August 5. After a reconnaissance in force made yesterday of the enemy's position aad outposts near Damanobor, Sir Archibald Alison returned to camp. Shortly after the British had returned Arabi advanced for Damanohor with a large force, and had reached the'neighborhood of Bamleb, about fire miles from this city, when General Alison gave the order for attack. The British troops thereupon advanced and opened a vigorous assault upon the enemy on three sides. A serious engagement is now proceeding, but no particulars are yet to hand.
