. Instjbanoe Companies—(Continued). prosperity of the Company, bo each feels its 1 reverse?, though both are felt in different degrees. As to the necessity for such an undertaking it is quite clear that it is called for. The business of Fire and Marine Insurance has been, and still iB, increasing throughout the colony, and especially is this so in the Auckland Provincial District. , . The vast returns whioh have been obtained by our local companies demonstrate beyond a i doubt that a business of very great magnitude I is being transacted year after year, and that these enormous results are produced upon a very small amount of called-up capital. No,ne of these "extraordinary results, how-' ever, are produced by Companies formed upon the mutual principle, by which every additional Insurer, by insuring, lessens the cost of insurance, ana-ireatea a powerful protection against that carelessness from which fires are chiefly due—a principle which induces greater care and caution in all households and pl&ees of business. Building and population, too, are both on the increase, arid.' there iB every prospect of this continuing. All the Fire and Marine Insurance Companies in New Zealand are based upon the ordinary principles, by which profits are divided 'amongst Shareholders-ONIT, and'such regard for Insurer's 'as is how proposed finds no place in their constitution. It is reasonably concluded, rthere fore, that a wide field lies open to -the Company now introduced to the, public, and a prospect of success certainly as great, if not greater, than that hitherto accomplished.by similar insti* tutions is now presented for acceptance. As to the Company's projects— The success whichhas followed the different Australian Mutual Life Associations must be well known, and the increasing numbers of such instil utions >.ugurs well that the principle of mutuality is the key to .this vast measure of success. t • ■ , '- • " If success follow* that principle wh>n, applied to risks of such an uncertain nature as life risks, it is impossible to advance any sound arguments against the like results being obtained in applying the like principle to the less hazardous undertaking of Fire and Marine Insurance. One Mutual Fire Society in Australia has been in 'existence, nine, years up to May, 1881, and for the last eight years it has paid 20 per cent, bonus dividend equally between Share* holders and Insurers, besides 8 per cent, interest to Shareholders upon their paid-up capital, and in May, 1882 (the end ef its tenth year), it had in invested funds the handsome* amount of £15,000. What is more remarkable still is that these results have all been pro-' duced from a called-up capital of only Six - thousand tivo hundred and fifty pounds. Forms of application, for Shares can be obtained at the Company's Offices, Canada Buildings, Auckland, or from any Branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, where the same will bo received up -to the 10th August next. , - ■ - If no allotment is made, the deposit will be returned -without deduction, and when- the number of Shares allotted is ,less than the number applied for, the surplus will be credited in«reduction of the amount payable on allotment. ' Copies- of. the Memorandum and Artic'es of Association, of the' Company may be inspected at the office of the Company's Solicitors. . .„,.,... Agencies will be established throughout the Colony as soon as practicable. Dated at Auckland this eighth day of July, 1882. ~ ' ' " 240 W. J.
