OUR MINES.
QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
The amalgam resulting from the 18 loads crushed from the winze last week was retorted to day, aad yielded 138ozs gold, or 7ozs 13dwts gold per load. A further parcel of 8311)8 of specimens was' bagged from the winze yesterday, and j 731bs were got to-day, making 1961bs of* I specimens and 3Olbs picked stone in three days The reef in the low level is also reported to be looking better. ALBURNIA. : Several trial parcels have been treated from this mine lately for the return of llozs 15dwts gold. The chief part of this came from 12 loads from the foot wall leader in Dixon's winze. Six men have been started to drive for McLean's leader at the Whau level. From here a height of 70 feet of backs can be obtained. WAIOTAHI. The usual monthly retorting took place to-day, and the return after melting weighed 288ozs gold. For this 227 tons of general dirt have been treated. WAITEKAURI, No. 2. Morton and party have crushed 190 tons for the capital return of 3020zs lldwts melted gold. SOUTHERN CROSS. The manager reports:—l visited the Prince Imperial G.M. Company's claim, and was shown through the workings. This company's shaft is about 220 feet from the Southern Cross boundary. The depth of their present level is 280 feet, and from this level they have sunk a winze 90 feet on the beach leader. In sinking this winze they had a little gold all the way down, but the best they have had is near the bottom, and to all appearances the run of gold seems to be underlying to the beach. This winze is about 160 feet from the Southern-Cross boundary. Close to the top of this winze there is a slide crosses this leader about 1 in 1, and they say that this leader has not been picked up on the seaward side of this slide, but there is one something similar, what they call the No. 2 reef, and what I think is the same leader, which is running in the same direction, and comes straight into the Southern Cross ground. Good gold has been got in this reef close up to the Southern Cross.boundary. This No. 2 reef strikes into another welldefined reef, three feet in thickness, in Southern Cross ground, which is underlying to the beach. There is only about 20 feet of driving been done on this reef. Gold was seen in driving, and I am told that a trial crushing gave lOdwts to the ton. The Prince Imperial Company is going to open up another level at- a depth of 340 feet. If this company intends to try this ground, this would be the best level when the Prince Imperial worked up to the boundary. In the meantime, if this company was making arrangements with the Prince Imperial, they could sink a winze on No 2 reef, and drive on cross reef at 280 feet level. —Jambs Cotjtts.
