This day.

The Auckland Choral Society hare offered to raise £1033 towards the foundation of a musical chair in the Auckland University, provided the Government give another £1000.

The Council of the Auckland Law Society with reference ot Mr Brtfssey's trouble with Mr Kenrick, reports:—" That from the document before the Council, it appearing that. before issuing a subpoena Mr Brassey had applied to the Minister of Justice for the production of the depositions taken by the Coroner as being of importance to the conduct of the case, and had been promised their production, and Mr Brassey's explanation that he. bad issued a subposaa before representations made to him that Mr Kenrick was biassed against the prisoner, the Council, come to the conclusion that Mr Brassey did not exceed his professional duty; but as Mr Brassey apparently defends the position that it would be proper to issue a subpeeda to prevent a Magistrate from sitting on

the Bench, the Council express their decided disapprobation of such a position, and hold such a course to be improper and unprofessional."

A whaleboat was recently pulled under water by a whale at Puatae, near Gisborne. The boat was under water half
