Wellington, Last night,
Returns of fees raised at the Supreme Court offices during year ending March, 1882: Dunedin, £1675 16s; Christchuroh, £2317 9s ; Wellington, £1545; Auckland, £1254; Total £6792 11s.
There are 130 foolscap columns of answers from local bodies (o Atkinson's questions about local government. Of course no one will read them, and as there is no means of obtaining an abstract of their meaning or contents, the doubt is whether the questioner or the answerer has betrayed most sense remains unknown.
This day
Seed, Inspector of Customs, claims his pension, and retires from the Government service. I have not looked at date of his appointment, but I am told his' pension is about £500 a year. His age is 53. The reason of his retirement is that he is to be appointed manager of the Trust and Loan Company vice Buchanan, who has been given a better appointment in Melbourne. He gets from the Trust and Loan £500 a year. The question discussed privately here is why should he get his pension if he is still able to serve P
