The Alleged Wellington Conspiracy.

[BY TELEaBAPH.I .. (PBOM OTJE OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, Last night. In the House of Representatives this afternoon the following notices were tabled by Mr Sutton and Mr Weston relative to the case of Longhurst, at present exciting such deep interest:—Mr Sutton to ask (1) if it is a fact, as stated by the New Zealand Times of this day tbat shortly after the conviction of the prisoner, Longhurst, a witness whose evidence went iv the direction of proving that the prisoner was not guilty of the offence for which he had been convicted communicated this explanation to the Government; (2) if such a statement was forwarded to the Minister for Justice previous to the most degrading part of the sentence being carried out, how it was that no action was taken by the Government in the matter; (3) what steps have been taken to ascertain whether there is any truth in the statement tbat Dr Collins' evidence was intentionally suppressed by the prosecution at the trial; (4) whether the Government considers it the duty of any officer of the Government to suppress evidence which if produced might have proved that the prisoner was not guilty of the very serious crime with which he was charged.

Mr Weston to ask the Minister of Justice whether His Excellency the Governor and any of his responsible advisers had. prior to the first or second- whipping inflicted upon the prisoner Longhurst, received any written or verbal communication from any person ©r persons relative to his guilt or innocence upon any point touching orconcerning his case. .Mr Levestam tabled a notice of question on the same subject.
