OUR MINES.

SMILE OF FOiß'iTTNjg (OWHA.ROA.)

The mice manager, under date July 17, reports as follows-.—During ihe pasfc fortnight I have been crushin » 12 hours daily wilh fifteea stamps from tbe different parts of tbe mice. lam breaking out crushing stuff "from fire to seven feet wide on the stopes south oi -the No. 2 reef which is showing up at the batter/ for a very good return. I shall hare to drive the intermediate level a further distance a'lead in this down hill direction, f 3 you. will remember I knocked it off some time a»o on account of' the leader looking rather small, and very few reins bein? through the sandstoiie, but I have . | carri. d he leading; sfjpe up to tie face of the drive where five feef-wide of dirt shapes for nearly an ounce to the ton, while the b.ck stop^s for a considerable ,;.»J distance up is of still better quality. IV*'ve*y seldom see gold in the stuff, in fact there is bardly enough solid quartz in the lot to make a specimen, but the staff when paaned'oif gives a splendid prospect of coarse gold. The crosscut from the inteimediate level towards the Badical 1 boundary is in about thirty feel, and in tight, but very good- country for gold.. We have |cut s'jiali leaders'and veins in every two or thre feet, all- of them carrying gold, and one or two starring gold freely in the stone. I crusheflffcbut ten tons o£ stuff from the crosscut just as itvca.oe out,' and it shaped tor about five or six dwts. I believe when the best of these leaders come to be driven on by-und-by, they are likely to turn out valuable, but in the meantime, I shall keep this crosscut going ah bad for and purpose of cutting the leaders worked by tbe tributers, Farmer and party and Campbell and party, as this crosscut will intersect the above leaders a good-distance clear of the sections held by the above tributers. A large quantity of low grade stuff comes from the stopes under the intermediate, the reef looking the same as when last reported on. Having got a good supply of timber and slab? on hand I shall start operations to-morrow on the No. 1 or Farmer and Sims's leader close to their workings. Campbell and party tributers, have started crushing to-day, they bare about 35 or 40 tons which they expect to go three or four ounces per too. Farmer and Sims will follow them with about 25 tons. The cleaning up of the firo head (to Jet Campbell start) produced a quantity of amalgam sufficient to warrant a return fully equal to the last. —John H. Moore.

GOLD BETUBNS. Jokes.—Mr, Tregoweth has banked sozs 4dwts gold from this claim,
