The schooner Gael arrived in Auckland yesterday morning, Captain Austin having found it necessary to put into this port on account of haviog lost the forestaysail, standing jib, and mainstaysail. The ichooner left the Thames with a large cargo of machinery for Hokitika, and while off Wbangarei on Thursday last; encountered a terrific gale from the nor* west. . .
Since his sentence, Winiata' has occu« pied himself incessantly with reading the Bible and smoking. He is attended by Dr Maunsell and the Rev. Mr Wallis.
William Hazlitt, aged 73, for rape on Larinia Hamilton, underlo ten years of age, at the Thames, was sentenced to five years' penal servitude, and^one whipping of thirty lashes.
The Parnell Council decided to derive their water supply from the city. A loan for water and drainage will be raised immediately.
