Wellington, Last night,

Mr Seddon has the following curious notice on the order paper for to-morrow : —" To ask the Minister of Mines whether it is true that the Hon. Mr Oliver whilst Minister for Public Works or his successors held in their own names certain properties belonging to Her Majesty the Queen, to wit the Kumara Waimea water race, together with, certain branch races and the Kumara sledge channel properties which in aggregate have cost the colony a sutn of over £150,000, and whether the Hon. Mr Oliver or his successor, the late Minister for Public Works, has transferred the aforesaid properties to J. Gow, Esq., manager of the Waimea water race? Also,, whether it is true that at the present time the right and title to the Kuoiara-Waimea water race, together with the branch races connected therewith, as also the Kuroara sledge channel are vested in, and in the name of J. Gow, Esq , and whether the said John Gow, Esq., has executed a deed of trust to hold the aforementioned properties on behalf the Crown? That if the answer of the Minister be in the affirmative, will the Minister inform the House why such a course was rendered necessary, and under what authority or law power is giren to have such valuable properties so held in or on behalf of Her Majesty ?" The following local petitions were presented last night:—A petition of the Thames County Council claiming a refund of £8802 of County funds which have been paid by the Government to the natives (Cadinan). Thames County Council for refund of £481012s improperly paid to the natives on account of Ohinemuri Goldfields (Captain Morris); Georgo Kaynor, for a grant of land for services rendered the Government (Cadman); T. L. Wallis, that his children may have the same privilege of obtaining land as strangers arriving in the colony (Major Harris)..
