WAIHI.
(feom oujb own cob respondent.) Mabtha.—Since the late cleaning up the mill has .been idle and the contractor Las had some 20 hands on to improve and make the necessary alterations in the race. There is no scarcity of water, but the flaming orer several of the swamps has settled down and has to be raised. The resident shareholders, and there are a good many of them, are most put out with, the return, and from the present prospects of the mine, they are sangnine that the next crushing will be a better one. I think that the stone at present coming out justifies this. Waihi. —On my visit I found the Waihi company crushing with nine head, the disc on the tenth having been sent to the Thames as a pattern for some new ones, and for the fortnigtit*only~'nine head having.been crushing. From all I can learn the crushing is likely to be a payable one, as the stone is easily got and crushed cheaply. Young Colonial—l found the Young Colonial tjn head idle for the want of quartz, as the contractor for carting, owing to the bad weather, was not keeping the mill goiug. The stove at present coming out is by far the best stone. The gold is very fine, and there are some doubts as to whether the present style of reducing the quartz saves the fine gold. Cigarette.—ln this, claim the main drive is being pushed on. Duicibel.—-The Dulcibel is taking out ■tone, and there is some talk of their getting a batter/ on their owa account. The Inspector has re-entered several of the mines* and some of them will be taken up. . " ,
