THE OTANUI DISTRICT.

The following was held over from last night's issue :— ALBION. This is a new claim pegged out only last week for Mr Boss, who has applied for a lease for 15 men's ground. It is situated on the west side of the Eureka, with which claim it is peg and peg. Instead, howefer, of the other-boundary lines running east and west; as in the Eureka, they turn off considerably to the south. This is done so as to take in a larger length of the Eureka reef, which passes through the south eastern corner. The hill is very steep here, so that a pood amount of backs (probably about 70ft or 80ft) will be obtained by a level put in from the bed of the creek. This the . proprietors intend tostart at once. They expect to have to drive about 70ft, which will take a little over three weeks. Two other leaders—one about 70 feet from the Eureka reef, and the other about 30 feet further on again— have been found cropping out on this claim, and gold has been seen in one of them. They are running in exactly similar courses to the Eureka reef, and will probably be met with in the Eureka, Arizona, Bonanza, and Crown claims. It is also expected that the Bonanza reef will rnn into this claim, after passing through the Eureka, that is if it does not junction with the Eureka reef when it crosses that body of stone. If it should continue its course, a goodly height of backs will be obtainable, as the upper part of the Albion claim is very steep. ARIZONA. * This is also a claim of 16 men's ground, the lease for which has been applied for in Mr Ross'name. It is situated to the north of the Eureka, and west of the Bonanza, being bounded on the other sides by unoccupied ground. If the line cut on the supposed course of the reef by Mr McKenzie is correct, this claim will have about 150 feet in length of the Eureka reef on the surface, but it is underlying into their ground, and-from the Eureka tunnel they will have some two or three hundred feet of backs, on it. A much greater length of the reef will thus he in this claim when such a low level is put in. The first work undertaken will be to put crosscut from the Victoria ground at a height sufficient to give about 60 or 70 feet of backs in the Arizona ground. It is also possible that the point where the Bonanza reef runs into the Eureka reef will be in this claim, but as the former bedy of stone seems to be taking a bend more towards the south that junction is more likely to be in the Eureka ground.
