Harjes, the Auckland levanter, was examined yesterday in bankruptcy. His liabilities were shown to be £1486, but the estate shows a surplus of £876.
A committee has been formed for the purpose of organising a banquet to Sir Henry Parkes on his return from England.
Henry Bryant, alias Deßeaumont, the Age informant regarding the alleged Russian designs on the colonies has been sentenced at the Kilmore Police Court to five years imprisonment forgery. The Marchioness of Normanby is at present suffering from indisposition. Brisbane, This day.
The Queensland ievenue for the last quarter amounted to £612,090, being an increase of £41.000 compared with the June quarter 1881. The revenue for the year ended 30th June amounted to £2,100,003 being an increase of £331,000 compared with the previous year. The following increases are shown by the returns:—Customs, £119,000; land revenue, £12,000 ; rents, £44,000; railway, £83,000 ; and telegraphs, £25,000.. - The Queensland Parliament was opened yesterday by His Excellency the Governor, who, in bis Speech on * the occasion, announced that proposals had been made by certain syndicates for the construction of a Trans Continental railway, which would probably be accepted. The Speech further stated that immigration to the colony would be encouraged, and that communications were beiag exchanged with the Indian Government on the suhject of emigration of Coolies to Queensland^
