Coromandol Mining News.

[Fbom the Mail.]

The pripeipal item of mining news since . last issue is the continued output of good stuff from the Tokatea mine. At the meeting of directors, held on Wednesday evening, a plan of. the workings was shown by the manager, and general satisfaction was . expressed with the prospects of the mine. Operations at the New Union Beach are progressing favorably; the machinery work s well, and the water is being lifted out of tbe . mine as speedily as could be desired. Tokatea.—The mine manager reports : , There is no change to note in the driving in the main level. The ground is broken and the reef split up, forming a series of small stringers scattered through the country. Tbe body of quartz mentioned in last report has been shot down, and proves to be a portion of the main leader, broken up with the country past the hanging-wall. No. 2 Intermediate: We had to withdraw the men from this level for opening tbe , back stopes above No 1, but it is important that this should be pushed ahead, so that j ■toping can be started in this direction. No 1 Intermediate: The No. 8 east and west j levels are in about 40 feet each side of the i winze. The western drive has shown more ' ' Or less gold in each breaking down, but the , eastern drive has improved as it advanced, ' yielding 3241bs of picked stone in the last i(K&efc, leaving gold both in the roof and fioor of the level. Two leading stopes have been opened out from the back of the levels each way from the winze, and are now yin about. 7 feet, but will not be broken down till Monday next. With a view of pushing ahead the opening of this block, which is 260 feet long by 60 feet deep, I beg to suggest that the contractors now driving No. 7 level be given a small contract to continue the No. 1 Intermediate from the No. 1 winze towards the face we are carrying from No. 2. It would only suspend operations in the main.level for a'few weeks, while it would enable us in about a month from this to keep the battery continually going. I have forwarded plans that will explain the matter fully to the Board. There will be no quartz broken out till next Monday or Tuesday. — J. P. Hall. Try Again (Wells and party).—This claim is part of the ground which the Pride of Tokatea forfeited some time ago. A former level, driven 600 feet to intersect the did Rainbow End lode, has been cleared out and a substantial tramway has laid down- This level bad been driven by the old company to cut the winze sunk 100 feet on the leader from which gold was taken in/tba upper workingsEbin's Hope.—A low level, started for the permanent working of this ground, has been carried in about 60 feet through tight country. Work in other parts of the mine is being vigorously proceeded with. Biitb Pkkeb.—A little gold is showing occasionally.. Boyak Oak. — Mayne and party crushed five- tons of general stuff and 601bs picked stone at the Corby for a yield of 16ozs of gold. Paul's Cbbek Pbospec!tin& Association.—Rich gold was struck in the reef on Saturday, several pounds of specimens and rich gold having been taken out of the centre of a two-foot reef opened up hy the association.
