WELLINGTON.
This day,
The wreckage recently reported at Matanui, near Flaxbourne, has been ascertained to be that of a small wooden vessel, and not that of any of the N.Z.S. Company's fleet.
Where the railway accident occurred on Saturday night, there is a sharp curve, and the grade is lin 37. Several trucks left the rails at the same place some months ago. The two tracks which went over were about the centre of the train. Two other trucks were pulled off the rails, but not over the embankment, before the couplings gave way.
W. Eattray, a Government clerk, who is charged with embezzlement, was remanded to Friday.
