Whitaker for Mikaere and bis hapu. The jury, after long deliberation, returned a verdict of manslaughter, against Mikaere, who was fully committed for trial. Fana was liberated. Mr Braseey was retained to act with the Crown solicitor in prosecuting Mikaere in the Supreme Court.
