OUR MINES.

ALBUBNIA.

Driving is being continued on the reef in the Sons of Freedom tunnel, and a fine looking body of quartz is visible in the face, though gold is not visible in it. The manager is engaged getting into working order the winze from the 160 ft level, and as soon as this is completed, he will open up an intermediate level from it to facilitate the working of this block of ground. A winze is. being sunk on the Success leader under the spot where the haul of picked stone was recently obtained, but though good colours and dabs of gold are occasionally teep, nothing very rich has

been met with. 6'lCcefte and party, tributers, have banked Bozs &lwts gold.

HOPEFUL,

The crushing of general dirt was finished yesterday, and the amalgam was retorted to-day, the return being llozs 16dwts gold. This, with tbe gold from the picked stone obtained in getting out this crushing makes a total of 74ozs 9dwts gold from 12 leads of general dirt. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. Extensive alterations have been made in the pumping machinery of this mine the past tew days, under the superintendence of the mine manager, Mr Black. The pump started yesterday, and everything was found to work smoothly. The alterations will give so much increased pumping power that this mine will not in future be dependent on the Big Pump at all—but will easily be able to keep the workings free from water. The old balance bob lias been removed, and the plungers are now placed so that the one set balances the other, thus greatly facilitating the work of pumping. Now that the difficulty of keeping the water under has been overcome we hope to see the work of prospecting the low levels taken in hand at onco and vigorously carried on, as from Hie good results obtained by the tributers we feel.snre success would reward the efforts spent in that direction.

GOLD RETURNS. Kukanui Hill. — Corin and parly have banked loz 9dwts gold.
