RESIDENT MAGISTRATES COURT.
THIS DAY. ■ (Before H. Kenrick, Esq., E.M.) ' Kate McGregor, alias Wilson, was charged with using insulting language to Wm. Hastings on the 26th imt. .■ The defendant denied the charge. Wm. Hastings deposed that he was standing at his gate at nine o'clock on Monday night, when the accused .turned round and spat in his face, and also used to him insulting language.* He told her to go home, and sent for tlio police,, after whic she went away. This was not the", first time he had had occasion to complain _of Mrs McGregor's conduct. Mr Kelsall gave evidence in corroboration. He had at one time advised Mrs Hasting to summons Mrs McGregor for using insulting language. Sergt.-Major O'Grady, in reply to the Magistrate, gave anything but a good character to the accused. His Worship said there was little doubt \ but insulting language had been used, and he would therefore bind the accused over to keep the peace for six months, in two sureties of £10 each, and herself in £25. INDECENT ASSAULT. .. ; -.;; Morris Heffeman was charged with attempting to commit an indecent assault on a child under 10 years of' age, the daughter of Wm. Morrison. IS. Cleary deposed that ho arrested the prisoner on the 27th inst, at Te Aroba, on a charge of attempting to indecently' ) assault a young girl nan d Prudence Morrison. Prisoner made no reply, and appeared suffering from , the effects of drink. : Two children, both of tender'years, were examined as to the particulars of the assault, after which the accused was com* : mitted for trial. ~ ,- - •■ i Another case, after being .partly-heard, was withdrawn by permission of the Court.
