The Wellington correspondent of the Herald says :—lt is freely stated here to-day that Sir Arthur Gordon leaves for Great Britain earlier than previously expected, most likely starting next month, and leaving Lady Gordon and family to follow a month or two later. It is also freely stated) on alleged high authority, that Sir Arthur Gordon will not again return to New Zealand. A further rumour is afloat to the effect that Lord Augustus Loft us, the present Goveiaor of New. South Wales, will be his successor. I simply give these reports for what they are worth, but where there is so much smoke there is usually some fire. ;
