AUCKLAND.
Yesterday. Arrived : The German gunboat Habicht after a seven months' cruise amongst the Islands. She punished the murder of two German subjects by burning a village and hanging a native.
At the Police Court today William Weston, a bootmaker, was fined £5 and costs four guineas for assaulting A. S. Rathbone proprietor of the " Observer" newspaper. The cause of the trouble was a paragraph giving a list of 'southern bootmakers with which it was safe for the public to have dealings. Weston's name was not on the list.
