The cases under the Gaming and Lotteries Act will be heard before the Magistrate and a full bench. O?er 30 circulars hare been sent to the Justices of the Peace, requesting their attendance on the bench.
A rffply has been receired through the United Station Legation and the Foreign Office to the address of the House of Representatives of New Zealand on the death of President Garfield. Mr Lorell, addressing Lord Granville, says he has been directed to request his Lordship to transmit to the Parliement of New Zea*
land, the heartfelt acknowledgement oi the bereavad family of the late President Garfield, and of the American people for a telegram of tender sympathy received from that distant colony, which is specially appreciated in this hour of grief. A copy of the Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881, has been received by His Excellency.
