We have heard complaints about the state of the dray road to the Moanatairi battery; we refer to the incline leading to the hbppera, It appears the battens are almost useless as a hold for the horses' feet, and some of the timbers are not over secure. Yesterday, as Mr Tasker was taking his team up the incline with a very heavy bad of quartz, the leading horse of the team missed his footing, fell, and hurt himself very seriously, while the whole weight of the load being thrown on the shaft horse, it was more than he could sustain, especially with the insecure footing, and he also succumbed and fell with the shafts of the dray upon him. Both animals were much cut about the legs. If it is as represented, that the road is in bad repair, and that it is the fault of the company, it may happen that an action at law may be instituted if accidents are caused by the neglect of the servants of the company.
We learn that Mr E. Quia, .so well and favorably known in ' the Ohinemuri district, has purchased from Mr F. Lipsey, his| well known hotel in Paaroa. The price given is a large one, yet the business of the house has been increasing of late under the admirable superintendence of Mr Lipsey and his thrifty wife. Mr Lipsey intends to devote his attention for the future to hid farm, and he will no doubt secure a share of the prosperity that is in store for the Olunetnuri district. Mr Quin we feel confident has mades good investment, aud he will secure more than a share of the trade of the place. His connection with mining matters, and his well known, and amiable qualities will shortly make him a favorite landlord, and. his house one of the most acceptable to the travelling public
