[Eeuteu's Special.] London, December 19. A storm of unusual severity was experienced orer a great part of England last night. The wind blew with hurricane force, and caused immense destruction to property in several parts. Extensive Seizure of Dynamite. .News is to hand from Ireland that tbe police yesterday proceeded to a house in Dublin and made an extensive seizure of dynamite, gunpowder, and arms, and in addition a number of documents implicating several people. The persons in charge of the house, were arrested, and the arrest of ethers will be made forthwith. Obituary : George Edmunds Street, an eminent architect, aged 57. A statement which has been current to the effect that the Queen would open Parliament in person is officially denied. London, December 16. Consols remain at 99|. The market rate of discount has been raised sf. The bank rate remains at 5 per cent. New Zealand securities are firm at last quotation. The market for colonial breads tuffs is quiet but steady. Adelaide wheat, ex store, 56s ; New Zealand ditto, 525; Adelaide flour, ex store 41s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,800,000 quarters. Australian Tallow is firm at 39s 6d for best beef, and 44s for best mutton. London, December 18. It is announced that Sir George Bram* well, who resigned the position of Lord Justice of Appeal in September last, has been raised to the peerage. The Marquis of Harrington, Secretary of State for India, made a speech at Burnley, in Lancashire, in the
course of whien he stated that although | Land Leaguers were continuing a j guerilla warfare in Ireland, there were hopeful signs that the agitation in that country was gradually diminishing amongst the people, which was shown by the increasing tendency which _had of late been shown on the part of juries to convict for agrarian offences. It is announced that Her Majesty the Queen will attend, in persou, at the opening of Parliament in February next. Alexandria, December 18. The steamship Europa, from Australia for London with a cargo of frozen meat, has passed through ,the Canal. Her cargo is reported to be in perfect condition.
