[FBOM THE COBOMANDEL KAIL.] ■ Home Bule.—ln driving the low level the reef was lost. A mining survey recently made revealed the important fact that the lode had been passed and the face of the lode was being carried further from the reef every foot driven. A crosscut has now proved the accuracy of the survey, and tbe reef has been struck showing gold in the stone, and a fresh impetus has thus been given to operalions. Gold is also showing in the stone taken out of the winze going down from the last level. The reef going down in the low level looks splendid, being a strong compact body of stone with good walls. " Tiebnan's have 701bs picked stone to hand from a new reef on the side of the road. The stone taken out was from the surface, but a drive started to cut the 1 same will intersect it in a few days, as three shifts are being employed. Tokatka.—The miner manager reports that the No. 7 level has been driven about 16 feet through rather tight country, but good shooting ground. At the date of last report the lead in the face was small and broken and considerably off its usual eoursc, but on Saturday last the footwall took a sharp bend to the south, and will have to continue in the same direction about thirty feet more to bring the lode. back to its true position. The latter has increased its thickness to about ten inches and is looking better and more defined. In the intermediate level there is no change. The one going west is still in broken ' country, with lode small. The east drive carries a fair lode from two to three feet thick and looks well for gold. CoMBTOCK.—The mine manager reports having obtained gold from the s topes and a few picked stones. The intermediate level has been driven 10 feet last week, making in all 30 feet, with loose prospects. Bismabck. —Payable crushing stuff is being got in several of the faces where work is being prosecuted, bat there has been no find of specimens or picked stone. Speaking generally, however, matters look healthy enough. The cleaning up at the battery on Tuesday resulted in a yield of 68ozs retorted gold.
