The police authorities have definitely decided to take action against the gentle* men who were engaged in the sweeps at the Hutt races. The cases will be heard in the course of a day or two.
The Chief Justice returned from Nelson this morning.
His Excellency the Goveraor, Lady Gordon aad family leave for Lyttelton by the Hiueaioa at 8 o'clock touigbt, It it
expected they will be absent about eight or ten days. Mr and Mrs A. Morey and Elizabeth Stewart were today committed for trial on a charge of stealing a watch and a sum of £6 17s 6d. A meeting will be held tonight to consider the advisability of forming a new gas company.
Three Judges of the Supreme Court meet in a few days to draw up regulations under the Election Petition Act. This step is being rendered necessary, as it is understood several petitions in connection with the recent elections will be presented.
