PARA WAI DISTRICT SCHOOL.
The prizes at this school were distri bnted yesterday evening. The Chairman of the Committee, Mr Albert J. Allom, presided, supported by Messrs Tizard, Hansen, GHlespie, Lloyd, and Savage, members of the Committee. There was a large attendance of ladies and gentlemen resident in the district. The school was prettily decorated. The Chairman made a few opening remarks, congratulating all present on the improved prospects and condition of the school. He stated that when Mr Marsdon took charge as Head Teacher about eight weeks ago, the average attendance was only 46. Now there were upwards of 90 on the school roll, and the average daily attendance had increased to 70. He attributed this a great deal to the cessation of scarlet fever and vaccination scares, but also in a great measure-to the fact that they had now a competent and popular teacher, as also to the efficiency of his staff. He could not help remarking at the great improvement recently and particularly on this occasion in the demeanour of the children, which was most creditable to the children, to the teacher and the district generally.
