The natural son of Leotard, the celebrated gymnast, has recently, through tho death of his father, come into the possession of an income of £4000. The father of Leotard has thus fulfilled the dying wish of his son, who could not, according to the law of France, bequeath his fortune to the boy owing to the ban under which he was born. The young man has already at the age of nineteen taken a wife and lives in magnificent style in a chateau at Toulouse.

A rumour has been going the rounds, says the Home News, that it is contemplated to establish hereditary honours in some of the larger colonies. It is probably not without some foundation in fact, although the Government are not likely to give practical effect to the notion until it has been fully and freely discussed. There is much to be said against such a creation. The principle of general equality is too widely admitted in moat colonial communities to allow of great social hereditary distinctions. But the quarrel is mainly with the idea of their transmission.
