We would call the attention of our martial readers to au advertisement in another column setting forth the district order;.
We understand thai it is the intention of a number of gentlemen to sin-t a dramatic club on a wider und more general basis than the present one, arid that the actors will be chosen from both the working portion of the community as well us the influential. Such an organisation would, we hare no doubt, gain the approbation of the Thames public. The object of tbti proposed company will be purely philanthropic.
Thb necessity that exists for a good brass band on ihe Thames bus often been discussed, and there is no doubt that an efficient organisation of the kind would be a great boon, and an iucentive to young people to cultivate the grand art of music. Let it not be thought that we wish to reflect upon the two bands in charge of Messrs Hunter and Bachelor—by no means—but neither band it strong enough to produce satisfactorily the operatic selections they sometimes attempt. If the bands of the various companies were to throw off all " party " feeling, and meet, say once a week, ensemble, we should have better music, and the instrumentalists would be enabled to play music of a much higher and more classical standard than at present.
