ELECTION MEMOS.
The Coromandel Mail speaking of the election says:—Our local contest has resulted in*a great victory for Mr Cadmaa over two political giants, as their friends believe them to be. This contest was up to the last 48 hoirs conducted in a respect* able manner, but the Thames Advertiser of the morning of the election in publishing Mr Brodie's speech gave publicity to some remarks made by that gentleman which were not justifiable, and were in strange contrast to the courteous references
to Mr Brodie made by Mr Cadman. The Advertiser referred rather contemptuously to our local M.H.R. when it said "Mr Brodie is undoubtedly the must fitting representative, but we believe the sawmill interest will be sufficient to return a non-entity," and in reply to this we may point to the verdict of residents within the boundaries of the Coromandel electoral district. Out of 876 votes recorded at the two great centres of population (Thames and Coromandel), Mr Cadman received 357 votes against Mr Brodie's 281, bo that without going as far as the "sawmills" he is shown to possess the confidence of the electors residing in tlie townships."
