Coromandel.

The result of the Coromandel election is a rery disappointing one from a 3Jhames<, point of ?ie w. Mr Brodie did not rifoeire that support at this end of the district which he as a matter of right expected., The working men and business people' did not join in a unanimous rote for him. If they had done so he would hare been safe, eren if the whole of other parts of the electorate had roted against him. We have heard it stated, and there is considerable truth in if, that Mr Brodie's election was more important to the Thames as a whole than any other candi* date in the field. He is fully acquainted with our requirements, and would hare interested himself in furthering our interests. With Mr Brodie to help Mr Sueehan, and keep him posted up in regard to local requirements, we would hare been well represented. Mr Cadman, who has been returned will, we hare no doubt use erery endeavour to attend to the wants of tbe district, he is accounted a hard working, earnest man, and bears an admirable reputation for administrate ability, so when he makes himself acquainted with the wantjs of this end of the; electorate, he will, without doubt giro that attention to it which its importance demands.

Mr Maokay expected to have a larger share of support, but the result is only another example of how little dependanee can be placed upon election promises. Had Mr Mackay been returned he would no doubt have placed his well known ability, energy, and knowledge of local wants at the servioo of the electors, and sustained that reputation for business which he earned at the Thames many years ago.
