Ladvkbtisement.] (To the Editor of the Evening Stur.) SIR,— Curiosity led me to attend Mr Sheehan's meeting at Tararu last night. I was anything but favorably inclined towards the candidate, but I must admit leaving with my prejudices completely removed. Even further, I think that as an honorable man, or one with the slightest spark of gratitude, Mr Speight should at once retire from this contest, and at least show that there was more in him than empty professions. Mr Sheehan referred to the many obligations Mr Speight was under to him, and it struck me that Mr Sheehan being one of the leaders of the party, and not one of the rank and file as Mr Speight is, he (Mr Speight) should at once retire from the contest with his commanding officer. "Gratitude," says ah old writer "is a temper of the mind, which denotes a desire of acknowledging the receipt of a benefit." The mind which does not so feel is not; as it ought to be. Wlien the Apostle Paul says of the heathen, " Neither were they thankful." he seema to stamp the sin of ingratitude as peculiarly odiou9. Mr Speight has j time to redeem his character, and as a friend, I should advise him to do so. —I am, &c, A Well Wisher.
