at 7.30 this morning, the pictures on the walls severing, and window weights rattled in their cases. The shock was also felt at Hokitika at 7.37. Duration half a minute ; direction S to N.

The Hon. Mr Oliver leaves for South his afternoon.

The nominations for the House of Representatives is now completed. 241 candidates are nominated for the 95 seats (including the Maori districts). Of these however, two have retired and twelve are elected without opposition.

A slight shock of earthquake was felt here at 7.30 this morning.
