The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1881.
One of the questions asked Mr Sheehan latt night was of considerable importance, and worthy more than passing notice. The question was, in substance, as follows:—Would he support a measure giving power to tax lands through which lines of railway had been within the last few years constructed. His reply was in the, affirmative. It will be remembered that the District Railways Act gives power to tax lands through which railways are constructed under its provisions, and the Act of last session grants similar powers. If the principle is good in relation to lines to be constructed, why should it not apply to lands so enormously increased in value within the last few years by the construction of lines at the public expense P We see a good opening in thisi direction for the Colonial Treasurer. .
