Tauranga Election,

, The nomination for candidates took place at noon in the Court House jesterday, U. Brabant, Esq., Returning Officer. There was a large attendance, and the utmost good humor prevailed throughout. The first gentleman proposed was George V. Stewart, by Capt. Turner, and seconded by Mr Gray. Both gentlemen spoke at length on the many benefits conferred on the Tauranga district by Mr Stewart, and considered him a man in whom the people should repose confidence.

Capt. Morris was next proposed by Mr Lundon, who at great length spoke of the good qualities of his candidate.—Mr Adam Porter seconded the nomination, and referred to all the candidates, regretting that Tauranga had not the opportu? nity to return the whole of the gentlemen at present or about to be in the .field. He said as a choice had to be made, he considered Capt. Morris the best qualified and the man most likely to benefit the district. He enjoyed the confidence of the present Government, and his past services in the House were a sort of guarantee of his ability to discharge the duties of a representative. He was also well acquainted with mining matters, and from his (Mr Porter's) knowledge of the people of the Thames side of the electorate he believed a large support would be accorded Captain Morris. Mr Wm. Kelly was proposed by Mr Richard Bake, and seconded by Mr Ehodes. The latter gentleman spoke very warmly in favor of his candidate, who, in his opinion, was the only gentleman properly qualified to represent the district.

Mr H. T. Bowe was then proposed by Mr Lenton, and seconded by Mr Maxwell. ,

A show of .hands was then called for, and resulted as follows: —Stewart, 37; Morris, 32; Kelly, 19; Eowe, 18. ; Messrs Lundon and Porter demanded a poll on behalf of Captain Morris.
