NEW PLYMOUTH.
This day.
Trial of Titokowaru.
Titokowaru, at the H.M. Court this morning, was charged with using threatening language, and saying that he would burn Manaia and murder the women and children. Mr Budge and Mr Lloyd, of Manaia, supported the charge. Captain Northcroft (A.C.), also an E.M. of Waikato, testified to Titokowaru saying •" Have the white people forgotten Moturoa, Te nutn b te manu (your day is today ; mine is coming)." The gallant captain, in reply to the question, said —"We most decidedly got the worst of vit at both fights." Tito-, kowaru pleaded guilty and was bound over to keep peace in two sureties of £250 each, or twelve months' imprisonment. When leaving the court he shook hands with Lloyd of the Manaia Hotel, and told him to look sharp and get home. Titokowaru was quite unconcerned, and in defence said he simply knew nothing of what had been said in the evidence. •
