This day. Mr Kelly addressed the electors last evening. There was a large meeting, with Mr Samuel in the chair. Mr Kelly reviewed the past session, and declared for free and purely secular education. He said it was creditable to the Government to ask Mr Bryce to again take the portfolio of Native Minister. He spoke most efulogistically of the Volunteers, and said the House should not grudge granting subsidies when their value had been, thoroughly evinced during the late native crisis. He said he was in favor of grant* ing bonuses for local industries, and concluded by showing that in the past he had I assisted in getting Public Works carried I on in the district and the country opened up. A vote of confidence was carried, only one hand being against it. Trial of Hiroki The trial of Hiroki came on at the Police Court this morning. Kereopa was the first witness examined, and he deposed that he went in search of Hiroki, and found a kit. On seeing him afterwards at Parihaka he mentioned the murder of McLean to the prisoner who did not reply. William Williams, late Lands Purchase-,

Commissioner, deposed to being instructed by the Government to go in search of Hiroki after the murder of McLean, and when engaged in so doing, to the finding of a kit, shawl, and mat. * In reply to a question put by the prisoner, witness said he did not know whether the things found belonged to Hiroki. Tamanui deposed to seeing Hiroki after the murder of McLean as he came to witness's whare. Ou leaving the prisoner said, " From the rising to the setting of the sun let no man follow me." The cap and mat produced, the prisoner was then wearing. He also had a kit in his hand. Witness with a -party went in search of Hiroki. The case was adjourned till Monday next. Te Oti was then charged with robbing Fleming's house at liahotu on the 26th October last. He was remanded till to-morrow at 11 o'clock.
