Fbom a telegram in another column it will be seen that the noted murderer Hiroki has been arraigned on the charge of murdering McLean. In the course of the evidence given by Mr Messenger it would appear that Hiroki received great provocation from McLean's party as they had amused themselves by killing his pigs. This pleasantry resulted in a manner which no doubt the surveyors did not dream of. Whether such was the case or no, the mere fact of killing a few pigs would not justify Hiroki in assassinating McLean ; because if, as alleged, McLean commited the onslaught Hiroki had his proper course of action through the British Law Courts; However, as he saw fit to take upon himself the r6le of avenger for the slaughtered pigs, he will have to take his chance ; and it wil not be a surprise if he before long attains to a position that will be more elevated than comfortable.
