NELSON.

This day.

The Eenguin on a Bock.

The Hawea arrived at French Pass at 2 this morning and found the Penguin jammed in one of the swash ways on breaks in the reef. She lays about two of her own lengths from the beacon at Pass Point. At her bows there is 17 feet water, and aft 18 at low water. She is straight through the reef, aud is fixed by rocks on both sides about abreast of the mainmast. The tide runs both ebb and How straight with her. Part of the propeller was three feet dry at high water. She has laid one tide and not strained. At 5.40, when the Hawea left, she had made no water. The Wallace is still alongside, but on account of the strength of the tide very little time is left for work. It is expected to get her off when the tide next makes.
