NEW PLYMOUTH.

This day.

About twenty fire of the Taranaki Mounted ttifles, in charge of Capt. David son, came in last night and left again at 7 o'clock for the Waitara and northern Maori settlements.: Their visit is for the. purpose of .searching every native settlement between town and the White Cliffs for fire arms, and all they find will be impounded, so the natives throughout the district will be thoroughly disarmed.

The Ngatiawa natives who left Pungarehu yesterday got as far as Timaru which is about four miles south of Oakuru) last night. It was slow work getting the men to move, the women went first and men followed. They are expected in town about two o'clock.

It is proposed to have an address of thanks to the volunteers drawn up and handsomely lithographed, and each member who assisted in the demonstration to be presented with, a copy.
