BRIBEBY AND CORRUPTION.
(To the Editor of the Bveniitg Stab.)
Sib,—l wish to ask if it is a fact that a candidate at present on the Thames, who is elevating the moral tone of society by his presence, is' paying Mr Hugh Mcllhone £5 per week to tout for voters in the interest of this " estimable " fraud ? If bo the candidate is guilty of a breach of the Corrupt Practices Prevention Act, 1881, as the public will see on the perusal of section 4, clause 4 Perhaps the money is paid to Mr M. for conducting native business, for I hardly think that a gentleman of such a truthful, honorable, virtuous, and moral character as the candidate referred to, could contravene a law he had assisted to pass. I would also ask what interest Mcllhone has in the place, now he has applied for a public-house at Wanganui ? I hope the people will not be duped by these two individuals, who, for all the use they are to the community at large, might be at the bottom of the gulf.—l am, &c, : Habby Fubniss.
